What an exciting week in our Morden Forest! We're celebrating spring with lots of activities, looking at the changing of the seasons, baby animals, and growing plants!
The children got stuck in with some tool work this week, using hammers with the ice to release the flowers that had been frozen inside. This has been a great way for the children to practice their control with tools, being aware of who else is in their space, and having a great time smashing up the ice!
Another fun activity which we've really enjoyed this week has been spotting the interesting wildlife which visits our nursery space. We love to notice all the different types of birds and insects which visit us, including magpies, jays, pigeons, shield bugs and stag beetles! We had some mark making available to draw the animals we encountered, some identification sheets so we could match the animals to their names, and we even made some cardboard binoculars to spot all our little friends! The conversations of what we've been finding have been awesome!
Finally, one of our favourite weeks of the year is here - chick hatching week!!! Our 7 chicken eggs arrived on Tuesday, with the first chicks hatching on Wednesday through to Friday! We've been talking lots about how the chicks hatch from their eggs, using their 'egg tooth' on their beak to peck through the shell, having eaten the yolk and the nutrients in the egg to give them energy! The wonderful care from the children has been so lovely to see, and they've absolutely loved the amazing experience of watching the chicks break free from the eggs! We have the chicks with us until next Friday so please come in to see them if you would like to!
We're excited to see some of you for stay and play next week! In the meantime, enjoy the weekend!
