This week in our Putney Heath forest, imagination took centre stage once again as the children fully immersed themselves in our ongoing role play theme. With sunshine on our side, every day brought a new story, a new character, and a new adventure.
We began the week under the big top with a circus-themed extravaganza! The children delighted in classic games and carnival-style fun, with the egg and spoon race being the hands-down favourite. Excitement and cheers echoed through camp as our little performers showcased their balance and focus, all while giggling through the challenge.
Midweek, the group ventured into the world of storytelling with a lively re-enactment of the much-loved classic, "We're Going on a Bear Hunt". Together, they navigated imaginary swishy grass, squelchy mud, and swirling snowstorms - all leading up to the big moment in the bear’s cave! Everyone eagerly took turns playing the bear and hiding in the den, adding their own twists and turns to the tale. It was a fantastic opportunity to build confidence, practice expressive language, and stretch those imaginations even further.
Later in the week, camp turned into a mystery scene as our Little Forest Folk-ers became detectives in a thrilling “whodunnit” mission. One of the educator’s water bottles had mysteriously disappeared and it was up to the children to crack the case. Donning their imaginary detective hats, they followed clues, checked for fingerprints and combed through camp until they triumphantly discovered the bottle hidden in the brambles. Our little explorers were so proud of their sleuthing skills and teamwork!
To wrap up our creative week, the children explored storytelling through helicopter stories - a wonderful blend of oral storytelling, collaboration and mark making. Working in pairs and small groups, the children came up with imaginative plots filled with adventure, silliness and heart. Then, using pencils, crayons and paints they brought their tales to life on paper proudly sharing their work with friends and educators alike.
We also want to say a big thank you to all the families who joined us for last Friday’s picnic - it was such a joy to see everyone together in the sunshine!
Just a reminder that our stay and play sessions will be running next week, Monday 12th to Friday 16th, from 10am–12pm. If you haven’t booked a spot yet, please message Meredith to secure your place.
Wishing you all a joyful weekend—we can’t wait to see what next week’s adventures bring!
