Twickenham - Pirates, Parrots and High Seas

We have had a fabulous week of pirates, parrots and the high seas as we’ve built a pirate ship from crates and planks. We’ve sung sea shanties and walked the plank, as well as created gorgeous toilet roll parrots covered in brightly coloured feathers. Our favourite story was about a troll under the bridge who doesn’t want to cook and eat fish anymore so he goes off on an adventure and meets some pirates who want to hire a chef.

Dressing up has been a popular activity this week as the children have pretended to be builders, pirates, princesses, tigers, Iron Man, horses, dragons and so on. The growth of the children’s language and the role play of the different characters they have taken on is wonderful to see - horses being mechanics who come to fix the pirate princess ship is a story in itself!

As well as this, we’ve had: sensory play in the mud, splashing in water play, smooshing of shaving foam, in addition to stretching, rolling and cookie cutting both play dough and clay. Bead threading and jewellery making was a very popular activity this week too, as the treasure chests were filled to the brim for the pirates.

For a short week we have certainly filled it with so much fun and learning. Thanks for coming!
