This week we have been encouraging a balance of chatter and listening, as the children asked many questions, requested lots and LOTS of stories and were challenged to use their language to communicate their intentions during activities and everyday actions.
In one particular exercise, an educator asked the children to each create an animal mask and quiz each other on which animal they had created using questions such as, “What colour is it?” “Does it have fur or feathers?” “Does it live in water or on land?” Our Little Forest Folk-ers used their growing vocabulary to describe animals and make educated guesses, before trying on their masks and using their animal voices!
Every day, the educators put out plenty of resources and encouraged our adventurers to invent their own uses for some of them, allowing them to play and experiment freely, discovering the answers to “what”, “where”, “how” and “who” questions by themselves. This week there were innovative uses of sports cones as goal posts and unexpectedly, The Sea! We also witnessed tweezers become telephones, magnifying glasses turn into frying pans and even party blowers create a chorus of bees. All of these creations became key to plenty of imaginative play in which the children used their communication skills to further their own play and collaborate with others.
We hope you have a wonderful weekend with your budding chatterboxes and we cannot wait to continue all the conversations we started next week!
