There has been lots of sunshine in the forest this week🌳 ☀️
We’ve all enjoyed taking part in our tool work project, with our end goal to make a rope ladder. First, we gathered long sticks, and made sure to check they were strong enough for our body weights before painting them so they stood out!
Next, we carefully sawed them to size, using our safety gloves to handle the saw. It was the first time we had to saw something in half, rather than just the end, so we worked together and two friends held either end of the stick whilst a third worked with the saw. Once we had halved our pieces of wood, we moved to the climbing tree to set up. Our educators were sure to test the ladder first to ensure it was safe and secure before we all had a go climbing! Everyone enjoyed figuring out the balance and movement required to climb along without wriggling too much. Towards the end, the ladder would rock so we learnt to use our bodies to counter balance the movement! It was such great fun and we all really enjoyed the new challenge!
This week we’ve also focused on the book Pantosaurus! We’ve enjoyed learning the song by the NSPCC and using puppets to sing along too! Our amazing educators set up a laundry room and pants design workshop where we used the ‘washing machine’ to clean the spare clothes in the forest, and also learnt how to hang them up using clips and pegs. Our imagination went wild where we created stories and roles to work together. Mums, dads, aunties, uncles and lots and lots of babies. We worked together to ensure our house was tidy! In our pants workshop, some spare pants were hung up to catch our inspiration before using paint pens to create our own. We used our favourite characters and tv shows as inspiration! So many beautiful colours!
We hope everyone has a fun and restful weekend!
