Twickenham - Moving Day, Sunshine,Textures and Shapes

Our Week in the Forest

We have had a fabulous week this week with milder weather and glorious sunshine. We were happy to see our shadows again and noticed how tall they were as we waved hello.
Each term we move to another section of the forest in order to give the section we’ve been playing in for a term a rest. 20 children per day has quite an impact on the environment! We are now back under the glorious plane tree exploring our new space for the next 12 weeks before we move again.

One of our talented educators created a wonderful texture wall made from recycled cardboard junk and we had a great time feeling the surfaces of each piece of the wall, before painting them and peeking through a cardboard window in the structure.

Our Little Forest Folk-ers were keen to collect sticks this week, and lined them up side by side and tip to tail, to see how long each stick was and how long a structure they could make with sticks as it lay across the forest floor. Some children used play dough to connect the sticks creating shapes and naming them.

After a request for a treasure scavenger hunt the children cut and hung shapes around the forest for their friends to find, red squares hanging in the holly bush, yellow triangles from the ash tree and green circles from the Linden tree.

The mud kitchen is always a popular spot for mixing and pouring, stirring and concocting. The craft table has also been a buzz of activity as children have drawn around shapes and created clocks with paper plates.

Thanks for coming to the forest, see you again next time.
