Putney Heath - Fascinating World of Bees!

We had a fantastic week in the forest, filled with creativity, exploration, and plenty of opportunities to learn through play. The children embraced every activity with enthusiasm, making wonderful memories together while developing new skills and discovering more about the natural world.

We began the week by making the most of a slightly cooler day outdoors before the warmer weather returns. The children were fascinated by a colourful science experiment using Skittles. They carefully arranged the sweets in a circle before taking turns to use pipettes to add water to the centre of the plate. They watched in amazement as the colours slowly blended together to create a beautiful rainbow, sparking excitement and curiosity about the science behind what they were seeing.

The children also worked together to create a special keepsake for our 2026 leavers. Everyone enjoyed painting their hands in bright colours before carefully stamping their handprints onto the artwork alongside their names. It was lovely to see their excitement as they contributed to this meaningful group creation.

Outdoor play remained a firm favourite throughout the week. The forest echoed with laughter during energetic games of tag as the educators transformed into silly monsters, chasing the children through the trees. The fun continued as hats were collected and used to decorate a nearby tree, adding an extra touch of imagination to the day.

Our focus then turned to gardening and the fascinating world of bees. Our little explorers planted basil and nasturtium seeds, learning that plants need sunshine, water, and care to grow strong and healthy. We look forward to watching the seeds sprout over the coming weeks and caring for them together.

Creativity flourished as the children made their own flying bees using painted cardboard tubes, colourful flowers and string. In the mud kitchen, imaginative play helped bring learning to life as they created bee cafés filled with water for thirsty pollinators and pretended to collect nectar from flowers. These activities encouraged wonderful conversations about how bees help plants grow and why they are so important for our environment.

Our cosy book corner supported this learning with a range of gardening and nature books, inspiring thoughtful discussions about flowers, insects, vegetables, and the life cycle of plants. The children continued exploring these ideas through imaginative role play, using walkie-talkies to communicate as busy bees working together.

We finished our week with the lively game, Wake Up Mr Bear, Your Honey's Not There!, which encouraged listening, turn-taking, and teamwork while bringing plenty of smiles and laughter.

It has been a wonderful week of scientific discovery, creative expression, imaginative play, and outdoor adventure. Thank you for your continued support, and we hope you all have a lovely weekend. We look forward to another exciting week of learning together!
