What a week in the forest we have had! The weather decided to treat us to a reprise of winter, with showers of rain, the odd clash of thunder and lots of puddles … However, this did not stop the fun!
This week we explored the theme of transport and we have used loose parts to build our own aeroplane complete with our educator Cabin Crew! Our Little Forest Folk-ers scanned their luggage and handed in their boarding passes before taking their seats, bucking their seatbelts and taking off. It was then all hands working together to safely land the plane and get the luggage off before it was time to do it all over again.
We have a child who is very interested in the underground train system so naturally we couldn’t do a transport theme without building our own underground train too. We made travel cards and used pebbles and sticks to pay for them at the ticket office (a fun way to embed those early maths skills) before we navigated a maze of tunnels to find the right line and platform. We travelled from Putney Bridge to Knightsbridge to do a spot of shopping in Harrods.
We also enjoyed lots of art and crafts this week but the highlight was building our very own bus from cardboard boxes which was then painted many different colours.
We then had a chance to take a real bus trip to the local library too. Naturally the library provided lots of opportunity to share a story or two but the bus ride was wonderful to sit and have lots of conversations about what we were seeing on our walk to the bus stop and from the window of the bus.
We hope you all have a wonderful weekend and we look forward to more forest fun next week!
