This week, our Little Forest Folk-ers put on their hard hats and tool belts and stepped into the shoes of construction workers, wood workers, and builders! With their imaginations fired up and their hands ready to create, the children explored all things building and making - from bridges to 3D shapes and even a tiger!
We kicked off the week with a brilliant bridge-building challenge. Using a variety of loose parts like glue, sticks, and tape, the children carefully constructed their own bridges - critically about structure, balance, and design. Once built, they proudly painted their creations, adding personal touches and bright colours.
The construction fun continued as the children dived into a loose parts extravaganza, this time using materials like pipe cleaners, straws, and lolly sticks. This open-ended exploration led to the creation of everything from guitars and glasses to flowers and handbags. The joy in camp was palpable as children proudly paraded their imaginative inventions and explained their designs to their friends and educators.
Midweek, our budding engineers tackled a fine motor and shape challenge using chickpeas and toothpicks to build 2D and 3D shapes. It was a bit tricky at first, but with persistence and teamwork, they created triangles, cubes and more. This activity not only helped develop fine motor skills but spatial thinking too.
To finish off a wonderfully creative week, the children came together to contribute to our Eco Schools project, working on a large cardboard version of our adopted tiger, Shadow. With enthusiasm and teamwork, they ripped up pieces of orange paper and carefully added them to Shadow's body, helping bring this striking tiger to life. It’s a fantastic addition to our ongoing project, and the children were so proud to be part of something meaningful.
It’s been a week full of creativity, collaboration and construction - we couldn’t be prouder of how the children worked together and supported one another in their imaginative play and big building ideas. A massive thank you to all the parents who could join us for ‘stay-and-plays.’ It was lovely having you!
We also welcomed our new Deputy Manager: Welcome to Putney Heath, Rosie!
