Our Week in the Forest
What a fantastic week it has been at Little Forest Folk Putney! Even with the coats coming on and off throughout the day, our Little Forest Folk-ers embraced every moment - rain, mud and all!
We kicked off the week with an exciting adventure walk to Rolly Poly Hill! The children discovered a hidden “house” made from trees along the way, sparking lots of imaginative play. After a snack stop, the little explorers rolled their water bottles down the hill and giggled at how fast they went! Soon, the field was filled with energetic races and friendly competitions as the older children challenged each other to laps. Back at the clubhouse, our little engineers used leftover cardboard to build ramps for toy cars, observing how they zoomed down the slopes but needed a push across flat surfaces - a great way to explore forces and gravity.
This week also marked the start of our All About Me topic. The children used their cutting and sticking skills to create collages of their favourite things, sparking brilliant conversations about food, animals and places they love. They made handprints to share more about themselves and even crafted colourful zones of regulation 'mood necklaces', which they can use to check in on how they’re feeling.
Our mud kitchen and playdough area were buzzing with activity - with pizzas, spaghetti and even colourful 'soups' being served. The children loved imaginative role play as doctors - giving medicine to 'sick' teachers, listening to each other’s heartbeats and making sure everyone was healthy.
One of the week’s biggest highlights was the frozen dinosaur rescue! The explorers used different tools to crack open the ice, freeing the dinosaur and collecting the hidden stars inside. At the construction site, they built houses and towers, then tested how strong they were by knocking them down and rebuilding them over and over again!
Overall, it has been a week full of exploration, creativity and teamwork - a perfect start to the term.
A big welcome back to all of our sessional friends and we hope you had a lovely summer holiday!
