Our Week in the Forest
Back again after another wonderful autumnal week in the forest, we continued exploring our intent of the week: mathematical patterns and recognising these in the world around us. ✨
Although there was a definite chill in the air and a few rainy days, our adventurers couldn’t have been happier! They embraced the weather with enthusiasm, splashing through muddy puddles and running joyfully in the rain. ✨
One of our favourite activities this week linked beautifully to both our theme of patterns and our focus on understanding the world. We explored different hair patterns and types; curly, straight and wavy and discussed how everyone’s hair is unique, just like them. After our discussion, our Little Forest Folk-ers created their own characters, choosing which hair type they wanted to design. Each creation was full of personality and it was wonderful to see how proud they were of their work. Every character turned out different, celebrating the individuality that makes us all special.
We carried our learning further into some more focused activities. The children practiced describing the sequence of their day using words like first, then and after, helping to build their understanding of order and structure. We also explored different shapes, using them to create our own repeating patterns - another fun way to spot maths in the everyday world ✨
As we wrap up this week, it’s clear that our young explorers are not only growing in their mathematical thinking but also in their awareness of the beauty and uniqueness around them. Whether it’s in a puddle splash, a pattern of curls, or a carefully crafted sequence, they’re discovering that learning truly is everywhere ⭐️
