Winkworth - Teddy Bears Picnic, Lilac and Caterpillars!

Our Week in the Forest

What a wonderful week our Little Forest Folk-ers have had in the forest. The sun has been shining which has brought big smiles to everyone’s faces!

There was a wonderful construction site with diggers, sand and lots of stones to move around. Our little explorers got stuck-in and were very creative building bridges and garages to park the diggers. They also moved the diggers around the sand to create different shapes.

We spotted some beautiful lilac flowers which the children all liked the smell of. They went on to try and draw them, some wishing they could make their drawings smell as good as the real thing!

There was also some lovely role play at the teddy bears picnic. The children all sat round and fed the bears whilst discussing what we thought they might eat and what we liked to eat too.

There have been a lot of caterpillars at our site too. This has been a brilliant opportunity for us to hold them gently and observe how they wiggle along our hands. We talked about what they eat as well as their life cycle and how they turn into butterflies and moths.

Our Little Forest Folk had fun with numbers and counting this week. They played with hoops, having lots of fun counting and hopping. They also had bean bags which they threw to see if they could get them into the hoops.

In the mud kitchen they were cooking soups and making pizzas, collecting lots of different ingredients from the forest to make the most delectable dishes!
Another fun activity saw our little ones playing with toy ducks and water, having so much fun, placing ducks on a drain pipe and washing them down with cups of water.

One afternoon there was a little adventure around the Arboretum and the children walked down to the lake and then over to the field where they ran around and had a sit down on the giant orange deckchairs, as well as some den building. The den we made for shade was a hive of activity, after the den was built the children quickly began to fill it with cushions to lay on and made it homely before coming up with other ideas. They got some water and poured it into a pan whilst others made a ‘fire’ to start cooking their dinner.

We’ve had so much fun this week, we hope you all have a lovely long weekend!
