We have had a very exciting week this week!
The police came to visit, and the children were allowed to climb into the police van, investigate the various hats and helmets, feel the weight of the batons and hide behind a police shield. We learned about the use of handcuffs, detachable ties and eating healthily and keeping fit.
We have also been creating a small garden space in our forest and the children have enjoyed preparing the ground, raking the stones and twigs out of the soil, planting the herbs, watering them in and creating a pallet wall and rainbow ribbons to keep them safe.
Our theme has been transportation this week so we have been exploring boats, submarines, trains, cars and all forms of transport. We have had the traffic cones out and created a road layout with traffic lights and police controls. The children have enjoyed learning about being safe as well as driving and obeying the rules of the road. One child did get a ticket for driving their car too fast and going through a red light, but we had to run after him to give him his ticket!
We’ve enjoyed lots of new stories about “The Great Big Little Red Train” by Benedict Blathwayt and “Stanley’s Garage” by William Bee. We’ve been practising our writing, making new friendships, making music with our boomwhackers and just having a great time in the forest. As always “The Gruffalo” by Julia Donaldson is a very popular story in the forest and so we brought out our Gruffalo puppets which enriched our story telling and gave our children a role to play in the tale.
At our craft table we’ve built rockets with the inner tubes of toilet and kitchen rolls. Snipping, gluing and painting have created some gorgeous interstellar vehicles. Using cars driven through paint puddles, we have created wonderful tyre track patterns and with brightly coloured paint the children have enjoyed creating road traffic signs such as stop and one-way, as well as speed limit signs.
Thanks for coming to the forest, see you next time!
