This week in the forest, our Little Forest Folk-ers transformed into little engineers, full of ideas, curiosity and creative energy! With our sessional friends back amongst the trees, camp has been buzzing with the sounds of building, sailing and racing as we continued exploring our theme: “Things That Go!”
Using their fine motor skills and lots of imagination, the children set to work building their very own boats using a variety of loose parts. There was a real sense of focus and care as they carefully pieced their crafts together. Once ready, it was time to test them - would they float? Most of the boats were strong and sturdy, sailing proudly across the water. There were gasps, cheers and proud smiles all around as they watched their creations bob along the surface.
As the week sailed on, the little engineers turned their attention to land travel, crafting mini vehicles using small bottle caps and other tiny treasures. This activity really tested their patience, but the results were fantastic. Once complete, the forest was transformed into a lively racetrack, with logs, stumps and planks forming winding courses for their speedy new creations.
To round out the week, our explorers went on a journey through the history of travel. Living in London means many of the children are familiar with planes, trains, buses and black cabs, but they were fascinated to learn there was once a time without cars! Their questions and comments sparked some brilliant conversations about how transport has changed over time.
It’s been a week of building, testing, thinking and lots of funny weather. As always, we can’t wait for more adventures next week!
