Our Week in the Forest
This week Little Forest Folk Wimbledon has been full of experiments, exploring and excitement! The children have made their own volcanoes, been on frog hunts and even made pizza on the fire!
Using papier-mâché the children took turns to add layers onto a volcano base. They created the shape and continued to add layers until it was thick enough. We then went on to the meadow and made the volcanic eruption. The children took part in two activities; one with Coca Cola and Mentos, and one with vinegar and bicarbonate of soda. They loved watching as the big bubbles fizzed out and we could see how high it reached!
With the spring weather coming along, we have also been out looking for frogs. Looking at the life cycle of a frog gave us a bit more of an idea of what we needed to look for in the water. We spoke about the different stages and how we could identify each one. To start with, we saw a huge amount of frogspawn in the river, all clumped together and bobbling around, we could spot the little black dots in the middle as we saw them floating. In another pond we then saw a huge amount of tadpoles! There were thousands swimming around so we grabbed a clear cup and caught one to get a closer look. They had tiny legs forming and the children loved being able to get so close. Once we were done, we gently put it back in the water to continue growing!
The highlight of the week was our Pizza Party! Our little chefs all made their own pizzas with toppings of their choice and we cooked them on the fire. We also made chef hats and playdough pizzas to go with the theme! It was so fun and a delicious treat for our amazing week!
We hope everyone has a fab weekend!
