It’s been a glorious week of sunshine and blue skies, which has meant lots of fun and exciting activities for our Little Forest Folk-ers!
We have really taken advantage of the gorgeous weather this week and lots of our time has been spent doing things that can help the forest at this time of year.
Our little explorers love the chance to plant seeds and watch as they grow bigger, and this week we have been sowing some wild flower seeds on the meadow. This is connected to our recent project of building a bee hotel as a way of helping the bees find food and somewhere to live. The children used shovels to dig a small trench and then sprinkled the seeds inside, also making sure to water them. We have then been revisiting the space to see if we can notice anything growing. A very exciting watch!
Another activity this week has been a natural sensory tray. The children explored the feel of chia seed slime and lentils with water whilst seeing what they could add to it. This is a great way for our little adventurers to explore their sensory needs whilst also using new words to describe what they are feeling. “Slimey!” “Slippery!” “Like alien slime!” - we heard lots of great descriptive words being used!
Other activities we have been enjoying were using the slack line to practice our balancing, going on bug hunts for butterflies, and tackling the obstacle course. It’s great when the activities vary so much because of our space, and you can see the enjoyment the children get out of it.
Another wonderful week at Little Forest Folk Wimbledon!
