Our Week in the Forest
We have been minding our Ps and Qs while also practicing our A B Cs and everything in between here at Little Forest Folk Winkworth this month. We love literacy in the forest and what better way to practice our letters than with letters! The little ones very much enjoyed our forest post office where they identified the letters Aa, Bb and Cc and matched them to the right postbox. The older ones chatted about the letters they recognised “a is for apple” and the younger ones enjoyed posting the letters through, retrieving them again and matching the letter images.
During our circle times we’ve also been having lots of fun playing with rhyme using the wibbly wobbly song to make nonsense rhymes of our names and enjoying lots of rhyming books.
Now all aboard the Little Forest Folk bus! With this roleplay we could bring some real world context for print into our forest with a number plate and bus stop. The children took it in turns to be bus drivers, stopping when their passengers rang the bell and taking the bus to all sorts of exciting destinations. “We’re taking the bus to Portsmouth!”
Amongst all this we couldn’t miss World Environmental Day. The children all took part in making our own Earth using a blue sheet and the gorgeous green bracken which they harvested carefully with loppers before laying them out on the sheet to make the continents. Then, they had a great idea, “Let’s get the animals.” Together we placed the small-world animals all around our world and chatted about where they live and how we can protect them and the environment.
Thank you Little Forest Folk-ers for your care and all the fun you bring to our nursery!
