Winkworth - Little Forest Builders!

Our Week in the Forest

This week at Winkworth we have had some little builders on site working very hard. With their hard hats at the ready, they have been building towers, slopes, bridges and much more! They have been using their engineering, teamwork and problem-solving skills to build some fantastic structures that they then climbed on or crawled under and also enjoyed pushing tractors down slopes. There was even a lot of risk assessing as they were building, some bridges were too wobbly while other structures were much too high!

Another fun activity this week had some letters on the sensory tray to aid in letter recognition. We added some ferns and some tweezers. It was a great sensory and fine motor skill activity where our Little Forest Folk-ers had to use the tweezers to pick up the fern and place it on the letter that they were repeating along with words that started with the letter. They also enjoyed matching up some words that rhyme by working out the picture, calling it out and seeing which one matched up to it.

Together we have been talking about what makes Daddies special ahead of Father’s Day. We realised that our Daddies are all very special in their own ways, but that they are also superheroes. Our little explorers wanted to show them how much they mean to them by making them a SuperDaddy using the tools. They found a stick and used the potato peeler to whittle some bark off the end which they then drew a face on. They then found a smaller stick for the arms and used string to square lash them together. Once this was complete, they chose a colour for their cape, drew around a triangle shape and then cut it out before adding a ribbon around the neck. They all looked fantastic and they were zooming through the sky on the way to their bags to excitedly give to their Daddy.

What a great week, see you all soon!
