What a fun week we have had in the forest celebrating some important dates.
On Monday we enjoyed World Chimpanzee Day. Here the children were learning some facts about where they live and what they like to eat. They became little monkeys themselves as they climbed the trees and also walked along the rope between the trees, balancing like real monkeys do.
Tuesday was both Shark Awareness Day and World Orca Day. Some of our explorers went straight to the lifeguard station where they used the binoculars to keep watch for sharks. While they were on the look out some of the other children were having a grand old time walking the plank along the water. Our Little Forest Folk-ers found a shark that was very hungry, and so they demonstrated their great aiming skills by throwing food into its mouth, whilst singing baby shark of course!
Wednesday was St. Swithun’s Day so we focused on all things weather. The mud kitchen became a weather station with lots of different jugs, one had blue water in, another had shaving foam and a third had cotton balls for the clouds. This was a hive of activity as they used the pipette’s to change the cotton balls blue with the water. We also got crafty making some rain hats and hanging rainbows whilst the children sang rhymes to remember the order of the colours of the rainbow. As well as this we made some rain shakers to use in our closing circle and had a peaceful finish to the day.
Thursday and Friday were all about snakes for World Snake Day. There was a snake shedding activity where we put PVA glue on some toy snakes and once it was dry the children pulled it off like a snake would when they shed their skin. We also had a soup mud kitchen where the catkins that had fallen were used. There was also a giant painting activity where all our adventurers painted a big snake together, as well as another activity where they painted sticks and added some eyes and a tongue to turn them into snakes.
