Our Week in the Forest
We have had a spectacular week celebrating the world around us and especially learning about our world and how to look after it.
We have had opportunities to use tweezers to remove bits of plastic and string from our tuff tray of blue water. Whilst completing this exercise, we spoke about pollutants in our oceans and our rivers and how we need to make sure no plastic or rubbish goes into the oceans otherwise the animals might get very sick.
We have enjoyed creating planet Earth with a balloon and papier mache and learning about our planet and its oceans and land. Some of our older children have been learning about the other planets in our solar system and they were especially amazed to learn about Uranus with her 29 moons!
We have been learning about the elements of fire, earth, water and air and how important these 4 elements are to all our lives. We have spoken about plants needing air, water and soil, how we need air, water, soil and fire to survive and each day we have been doing some planting of flower seeds and sprinkling them with water.
We have also been revisiting our bug hotel, adding sticks and putting out water for the birds and bees. The children have quietly sat and waited for the birds to fly down and sip from our water supply. As well as this, we have been learning about compost, how to make it and why it’s good for our garden. We also enjoyed arming ourselves with magnifying glasses and going on the hunt for ladybird larvae and caterpillars. We’ve danced with butterflies and we have been using and recycling our junk such as milk bottles, cardboard boxes, tin cans etc to create a huge junk art sculpture. It is an ongoing project and as it grows we will paint and decorate it.
Thanks for coming to the forest. See you again next time.
