We’ve been bursting with excitement and now that it’s the Queen’s birthday and the official announcement day, we are absolutely delighted to finally share with you the news that Little Forest Folk has been given the royal seal of approval.
Following our being selected by Tatler as being one of the finest nurseries in the nation last month, we are now delighted to share with you an article written about Little Forest Folk by a journalist who visited us in our Wimbledon setting a few weeks ago.
Well, this weekend was the long awaited Nursery World Awards! It was a fabulous event and we were delighted to be recognised in such a large industry such as the early years to be one of the industry leaders.
‘Wouldn’t we all secretly like to be Little Forest Folk?' We are incredibly excited and proud to be included once again in the prestigious annual Tatler Nurseries Guide.
This week in the forest it has been a cold but fun-filled week consisting of chasing bubbles, face-painting, obstacle courses and most exciting of all, getting ready to move to our new site!
If you go down to the woods today be sure of a big surprise… for there you will find the Little Forest Folk wrapped up like presents under a Christmas Tree and joyfully singing, dancing, playing and chatting.
Together, children can achieve anything. This cold week spurred the children to collaborate in the building and creating of lots of big features throughout the forest. Constructing houses took up many hours over several days as the children searched for the best resources and tools to build with.
The children were very excited when the new story books arrived and couldn’t wait to find out what adventures Supertato and the evil pea would take us on!
At Kew, there were muddy ponds to explore where the children found that they could create brown and green bubbles by moving their sticks quickly in the water.
Whilst our little forest voices may not be classically trained, they are certainly enthusiastic! We love having a good old sing song at circle time and with our growing team it has been brilliant fun to expand our repertoire.
As the children continue to progress with their amazing tree climbing, the practitioners always looking to present new challenges for the children; this week we have been focusing on using the zip line.
On Monday we split into two groups at Kew and headed off in two different directions. One group wanted to do some fishing, so they headed to the lake behind Kew House and hunted for the perfect sticks to turn into fishing rods.
The colours of the forest this week have been incredibly vibrant with sharp frosty mornings. We have been observing how the natural world is making these beautiful transformations.
Well, what a lovely jubbley week we have had! The air has definitely gotten a lot crisper and we have certainly been eyeing up some cracking homemade knitwear in the forest!
From chilly to balmy, it’s been a complete mix of temperatures in the forest this week. The children have been in and out of their new winter jackets and hi-vis vests but this is all great skill development for dressing!
The forest this week has been a marvellous mix of storytelling, animal investigation and pirates! The children have thoroughly enjoyed listening to the stories read and told by adults early on in the week.
The weather has definitely taken a turn towards chilly this week. Wrapped up with a lot more layers and wearing our new fleece lined waterproofs we have talked a lot about keeping warm and putting our hats and gloves on when we get cold.
It’s been another exciting week in the forest full of new discoveries and experiences.
Earlier in the week we had some visitors to Fulham Palace Gardens who came to check that the forest was healthy and eventually had to cut down a couple of old trees.
A number of our LFF children had a wonderful time at the Paradise Co-op Bonfire party on the weekend, so much so that when they arrived on Monday morning they were eager to recreate the magical night!
What a muddy, messy week it’s been in Fishpond Woods. With more mole hills than ever giving the best digging terrain, the children have been getting to grips with the worm-rich soil and imagining all sorts of play with it.
It was a glorious day to be back at Kew again with the sun shining and keeping us warm. Half of the children went on a leaf hunt, filling their hoods with all the different types of leaves they could find.
