After a very short first week it was so lovely to be out and about and to see our wild explorers reunite again. It has been lovely to hear about our busy Christmas holidays and all the far faraway places we have visited during this break.

What a fantastic week it’s been in the forest! The misty mornings and sunny afternoons kept offering cues to the children to follow and develop their senses. The warm breath coming out of their mouths into the cold air, made dragons and steam trains come to life!

As we came into the forest this week, we found a super cool dinosaur town set up for us to explore! We have lots of little wooden houses that have been set up in one of the activity boxes, with ramps and tunnels for the children to put in different places!

This week, Jemima (our very own talented ceramicist) has supported children in experimenting with clay. Here, tools and objects were used to mark, poke, dig and score, whilst moulding techniques were demonstrated to form useful shapes.

As adults we look out into our muddy forest and see this as a challenge. Well not our children, the more mud the more fun! Mud is amazing to squish in, add to imaginative food play and even to slide on. If kids are warm enough and stay dry under their waterproofs, there is just no stopping the fun.

Welcome back adventurers. What a week it has been. Although it’s been a shorter week, we have seen all sides of the weather. We had ourselves a rainy day on Tuesday, mild day on Wednesday and icicle day on Thursday. Each day gives us a different view on what the forest can provide.

We’ve been so happy to see all our friends return to the forest after Christmas this week! All the children and educators were super excited to see all the faces we haven’t seen in a while, and we had lovely long chats about all the cool things we got as presents, and all the yummy food we ate!

We started off the new year with some wonderful weather, perfect for jumping in muddy puddles and catching raindrops from our tarps. The children and educators were all so excited to get back into the forest and explore what changes had happened in our forest over the Christmas period.

The festive celebrations have certainly continued this week, Santa's sleigh landed on the bowling green early Monday morning and the children enjoyed engaging in lots of festive role play, flying over chimney tops and gathering ‘presents’ from the field to pack the sacks with.
