Putney Heath - All About England!

Our week in the forest

This week, our little explorers immersed themselves in a week celebrating All About England! From creative art projects and imaginative play to exciting outings and discoveries, the children were full of enthusiasm and curiosity as they learned more about English culture, landmarks and traditions.

On Monday, the children created stunning artwork inspired by the Union Jack. We began by looking at the flag and discussing what colours we could see - red, white and blue! With small brushes and plenty of imagination, the children painted expressive whirls and zigzags, producing beautiful patterns that reflected the flag’s bright colours. Over in the mud kitchen, the space was transformed into a traditional English breakfast café, where the children served up full English breakfasts and even offered a veggie option. They cooked eggs, bacon, tomatoes and beans, and served up fish and chips too! Later in the day, they discovered a few pumpkins left over from the weekend and decided they needed a makeover - adding fresh paint and decorations to transform them into spooky bats and skeletons.

On Tuesday, the children set off on an exciting trip to Roehampton Library. They registered the nursery for its very own library card and were thrilled to explore all the shelves. The children read story after story and, before long, they had selected 14 books to take back to the clubhouse! This led to a thoughtful discussion about how to care for books and where they should be kept. Before heading back, the children made a quick stop for a well-deserved babyccino - a perfect end to their morning adventure.

On Wednesday, our little adventurers went leaf-hunting to collect yellow and brown leaves for a very special art project - a leaf collage of Big Ben! They carefully glued their leaves in place, using yellow for the tower, brown for the roof and pale shades for the clock face. When they noticed small gaps, they tore extra leaves into just the right shapes to fill them in - showing great focus and fine motor skills. The children also had fun exploring pumpkin sensory play, cutting, scooping and feeling the slimy insides, which caused plenty of giggles! Other highlights included making a colourful roast dinner from dough, building a block city of London and swinging through the forest rain.

On Thursday, the children enjoyed a cozy bonfire day, roasting pumpkins over the flames, and sharing stories together. To round off the week, on Friday the children took an exciting trip to the Natural History Museum. They explored dinosaurs, fossils and creepy crawlies - ending their week of English adventures with awe and wonder!

As the weather gets colder, we kindly ask our families that extra layers, socks, hats and gloves be added to the children’s bags, thank you!

We hope everyone has a wonderful weekend!
