Barnes - Collecting blackberries

Our Week in the Forest...

This week in the forest the children have enjoyed the wonderful late summer sunshine to the fullest. They have worked together on some fantastic projects showing amazing collaboration and communication skills as they negotiated and shared their ideas.

Potions have been very popular and the children have been very resourceful in collecting different materials. After starting their potions at camp the children would mix water, mud, sticks, acorns and leaves together to make a special soup. They would give the ingredients different names such as frogs eyes, snail slime and special gems. Once they had exhausted the resources at base camp they went off with tubs and bags on special adventures to collect blackberries, stones, dead grass, feathers and thistle seeds. It was wonderful to see the determination and perseverance of the children as their projects lasted through the morning and into the afternoon.

There have also been some fantastic literacy projects this week as the children have learnt to develop their own narratives through story scribing and helicopter stories. The children came up with their own characters and wonderfully creative events. They then went to the staging area where they acted out their stories one by one with a wonderful amount of expression and drama!

It was lovely having so many wonderful holiday campers throughout this summer. They all added to a wonderful new dynamic, with older children playing alongside younger children and everyone learning from each other!

We hope you all have a wonderful long weekend!
