Wandsworth - Bird Spotting!

Hello from a very frosty Wimbledon Common this week! What a super cold one it has been! In order to keep our little explorers as comfortable as possible, we have once again adopted our plan B routine, which has consisted of adventure walks, before heading back indoors for mealtimes!

When we went to Cannizzaro Park last week, we spoke about all the cool birds that we saw on our stroll, so Jamie decided to print us some Woodland Trust bird spotting checklists. On Monday morning, we went in search of Robins, Starlings and any other woodland bird we could find. Whilst we were in Cannizzaro Park, the children took a liking to the little stream that flows through the park, one of the children asked, “are there any boats in that stream?” Which gave us an idea for a downstream activity!

When we were back inside, we found some ping pong balls, which we drew a boat onto, along with our initials. The next morning, we took these back to the stream, where we decided to race them! Due to the icy conditions, and the lack of rain lately, it was a slower race than anticipated, but the children really enjoyed seeing these flow downstream, and then we fished them out at the bottom!

On Wednesday, we created a doctor’s surgery indoors, this was inspired by some of the children engaging in some doctors-themed role play. We made some hot drink remedies, which consisted of honey, lemon and ginger, and different textures, tastes and smells were explored. Most of the children loved the lemon flavour but weren’t so keen on the ginger taste!

We have had a super fun week and appreciate all our families helping us to navigate another chilly week! We have our fingers crossed for a return to the Forest for next week!

Have a great weekend everyone!
