Wandsworth - forest snow

We’ve welcomed some milder weather this week whilst observing the surrounding oak trees shedding the last of their leaves, creating wonderful ‘forest snow’ for us to marvel at. The chestnut brown hues that have arrived to decorate the ground this season have been the muse of lots of sweet, chocolate themed creations from the mud kitchen. In the spirit of giving this season the children enjoyed sharing their finished delights inside the cosy log house. They got creative, decorating the structure together, experimenting with wonderful weaving techniques. This task required some problem solving to stop the materials falling but teamwork was put to good use as masking tape was gathered and shared around to work together to secure each piece.

Although it was a dry week the children were delighted at the chance to create their own water feature via a slanted tarp set up by Dan. They enjoyed gathering buckets and creative containers such as coconut shells to take turns to scoop up the water and watch it slowly slide down the tarp, enjoying the sounds of dripping droplets at the bottom.

We set out on a wild adventure walk this week, exploring the heathland around sunny hill. We ventured off the beaten track through a purple jungle of heather and feathered reed grass after a stop by the beautifully decorated wishing tree to read some of the notes left by members of the public.

Eyes lit up when a shiny red post box appeared in the forest and the children got stuck in with some letter writing to loved ones and fellow forest friends. We saw an added dash of colour and sparkle appear this week as the children have been busy with a festive array of Christmas themed crafts, from intricate snowflakes to Sparkly tree decorations. We hope you enjoy hanging these up to bring a bit of the forest home to you this Christmas!

We want to wish all our sessional children and families a warm and wonderful holiday break and look forward to continuing the fun with our full-time children next week.
