Wimbledon - Space and Planets!

This week at Wimbledon we have been very busy doing lots of tool work, creating rockets and talking about all of our emotions.

We have had a varied week which has included some fire-starting using a flint and steel. The children had the opportunity to use these tools to create sparks and make a small fire on some cotton wool. At first, they found it a bit tricky, but with some guidance from one of our lovely educators they were all able to make the spark!

We also spent a lot of time this week on the theme of space and planets. We have created our own planets using recycled paper and sticks and painted them with our chosen colours. We also made a rocket from large sticks and tarps, and then everyone got in and blasted off to space! As well as all this, we had our own rocket launcher which used air and big jumps to make the rockets fly through the sky!

Finally, this week we have been really focusing in on our emotions. With the children having lots of new changes, especially our older adventurers learning about their new schools, we have focused on how they are feeling about things and what activities we can do based on our current emotions. We discussed making loud music if you are feeling angry, painting pictures if you are feeling happy and doing lots of jumping if you are feeling excited. It’s great to talk through these things with our little explorers and encourage them to talk about it with others.

Another amazing week at Wimbledon and we can’t wait to see what the next week brings us!!
