Fulham - Embracing Independence!

This week in our Fulham forest we have been thinking about how to improve and work on our independence. So, each day in camp we have come up with some amazing ideas on how to implement this through our activities.

A great chopping activity using the child friendly knifes encouraged our little chefs to work on their ability to correctly and safely use them to chop up different types of fruit. This was super fun and even though the children were safely supervised and monitored, it gave them the ability to work on becoming more independent when using utensils.

A great way to talk about oral health and keeping our teeth clean is to work on the importance of brushing our teeth and the consequences that could happen if we choose not to. Using a laminated version of a mouth and some toothbrushes, the children were able to visually see little drawn germs on the teeth and were able to work on trying to clean the germs away with the brushes.

What better way to work on our little ones becoming more confident and independent than creating an awesome challenging obstacle course! With elements for the children to climb, balance and jump, this was great to see our children really wanting to achieve and pushing themselves to complete it.

A station was also created on camp with all sorts of elements to give the children the opportunity to practise clothing fastenings, such as Velcro, poppers, laces and zips. This was a wonderful opportunity for our little adventurers to practise and focus on their fine motor skills, and will encourage and help our little ones in Fulham with being able to dress themselves when either getting ready for the forest or putting on their coats after visiting the toilet.

Our week of focusing on independence has now come to an end and we are excited to see what happens next week in the Fulham forest.
