Morden - 'Christmas Candles'

We’ve had another magical week in the forest! We are truly gearing up for the festive season now and have all enjoyed lots of fun activities to get us in the festive spirit!

We kicked off the week with some fantastic festive tool work - using the hammer & nails to make a Christmas tree using lengths of wood. Our little adventurers showed great listening as they remembered our tool safety rules & were fantastic at taking turns with the hammer. Our forest Christmas tree took pride of place outside & we have enjoyed changing the decorations each day, with leaves and other items from the forest!

Another fun activity was making ‘Christmas Candles’, using wax and festive foliage like dried orange slices, star anise & mini holly sprinkles - we then got to watch them melt on the fire pit, which looked so pretty & smelled amazing!

A fun numeracy game with a winter twist was a hot chocolate making game! Maria led our Little Forest Folk-ers with making delicious drinks then using our tongs to count in the correct number of marshmallows into each cup! Just like with berries & mushrooms, our little explorers followed our rules of the forest & remembered 'no picking & no licking' the marshmallows! This fine motor skills practice also helped keep our fingers warm as we gave them a workout! Play continued into the mud kitchen as we made steaming mugs of festive drinks for all our friends!

We've had a wonderful week in the forest this week & can't wait to continue the festive adventures next week - enjoy your weekends!
