Morden - The Sounds of Spring!

The beginning of Spring brought with it mild weather and warmth, both children and adults fully welcoming this. The children began and have ended the week with just as much energy and enthusiasm for play and adventure.

Our week highlights include adventure walks in our local community. Listening to the sounds of Spring and enjoying the space with the occasional muddy puddle splash on route and positive challenges – on one walk the challenge was to cut as straight lines as possible.

Our wonderful wild educator, the forest, was decorated with key words and sounds encouraging the children to (with support) identify and practice syllables.

Spring was welcomed with inviting activities to support the children’s awareness, these consisted of preparing seed bombs to grow flowers for the bees and butterflies, our recipe consisted of:

1.5 cups of flour

1 cup of water

2 cups of compost

1 cup of seeds

Mix the seeds and compost together then add the gluey mixture of flour and water.

As we focused on our learning intent for the week; developing phonological awareness through rhyme, syllables and initial sounds, the children engaged through many musical and sound activities.

There was also recognising and identifying sounds of the forest activity. Describing, differentiating and distinguishing sounds using DIY instruments and then with the real thing going on a musical adventure where we used beats and rhythm to become animals along the way.

We hope you have a wonderful weekend, creating many more stories of weekend fun to share on Monday!
