Putney Heath - Foraging Folk-ers in the Forest!

Blackberry picking season is upon us and this week the children were very eager to search through the forest each day, to check which berries were ripe and juicy. One of our adventure walks led to a plethora of berries - ripe for the picking! The children picked and plucked each berry, with tremendous care, and placed them in their bowl. They were mindful to pick the high berries, rather than the low, incase any of our fellow forest creatures had already discovered the low ones. At camp, they took turns washing the berries and gobbled them up for a fresh morning snack.

As the week progressed, the educators and Little Forest Folk-ers combined forces to create an international superhero headquarters in the den. Draped in their capes, they fought any villains on camp. After fighting crime and protecting their friends, the little ones transformed the den into a clay cafe. Clay was transformed into ‘pain au clays’ and ‘clay-ccinos’. The children created their very own currency to pay for the treats. With berries on their minds, the clay cafe shifted its menu to include small plates and bowls of fresh fruit. Our little adventurers were conscious of healthy habits, and a balanced diet.

Just like the superheroes protecting the camp, the children always feel the need to look after our wonderful forest and this week, Little Forest Folk-ers and educators alike worked together to pick up litter. With litter pickers in hand, they went for a walk and whilst picking up rubbish, discussed what more they can do to protect the planet!

Seeing the children reimagine spaces and demonstrate teamwork this week was truly magical to watch. We hope you all have a lovely weekend!
