Morden - Hands, Sight, Taste, Smell and Hearing!

It’s been a hot and sunny week in the forest! We have had a sensory week where we have used our hands, sight, taste, smell and hearing!

We love to sing and dance in the forest especially in the morning to wake up our bodies and get them moving! Our favourites this week have been, “We like to move it!” “Let it go!” and “Andy’s Safari adventures!” We love that everyone gets involved and impresses one another with their dance moves! “Watch me!” “Everyone do this!” We watched twirls and jumps, crawling and hopping!

We based some activities on books we have enjoyed with the holiday campers this week. As we have had some older children with us, we have enjoyed reading longer stories such as, “George’s Marvellous Medicine!” We created a sensory messy play using jelly where our little explorers were able to listen to the story whilst creating a magic potion! This made Granny (Vicky) want more medicine and the adventurers enjoyed responding in role play! “We will make you more!” “You’re turning into a giant!” We were able to taste the medicine and decide what our creation may do when eaten!

We have also enjoyed, “Jack and the Beanstalk!” The little ones listened to the story and remarked, “Jacks mummy is not nice!” when she sent Jack to bed for bringing home beans and threw them out the window. When Jack woke up to a giant beanstalk reaching above the clouds, we stopped and wondered what might be waiting for him up there. “Unicorn castles!” “Cats.” We thought on this whilst we used soil to create a bed for our own bean seed. We made a hole, placed our bean safely inside and watered it. “I think my beanstalk will grow up all the way to space!”

We put our science hats on and experimented with a plastic tube and balloon. How can we create force to shoot out a ball from the tube using a balloon? We experimented before attaching the balloon to the long plastic tube. We rolled the ball inside the tube into the balloon, pulled the balloon back and BLAST! Some shot the ball high whilst some shot it a long distance. We practised taking turns and sharing. “If I have three turns, I have one left then it’s your turn.” “That shot above the trees!” We watched as gravity always pulled the ball back down to the ground! “It’s fast!”

We look forward to another action-packed week next week! Enjoy your weekend!
