Putney Heath - Ice Cream Cones, Cakes & Mud Pies

After the valiant efforts of team England, our Little Forest Folk-ers channelled their inner lion and lionesses this week. Fabric was used for manes, and the children chased their friends and educators around the forest. Hiding in the safari lodge and climbing in the trees lead to painting the very jungle cats they were pretending to be. Using the leopard and lion fabric as inspiration, the children created ferocious masterpieces.

The children were very curious about where jungle cats lived throughout the world. They looked at maps and books to locate them which prompted them to look at where they live too. The little ones discovered the United Kingdom on the map and had heaps of questions about flags, cities and languages.

As the week continued, the children used the resources in the forest to cook the most delicious mud kitchen dishes. The little chefs scooped ice cream cones, cakes and mud pies. With sharing in mind, the children spread kindness through the forest by offering their home cooked meals to one another.

Since summer is coming to an end, many Little Forest Folk-ers are heading off to primary school. We are sad to see them leave but have cherished the time spent with them. They have been helpful in showing the ropes of the forest to the new little ones who have joined this week. The older children have been wonderful role models showcasing our forest rules and what it truly means to be part of the forest.

It was lovely to watch the children use the space and resources in such innovative ways. Hellos and goodbyes were said, and lots of new memories were made!
