Wandsworth - Immersed in Imaginative Games

It has definitely felt as though the first gasps of winter have been in the air this week. Regardless, the children have dressed warmly and even at its most torrential, the weather has not stopped them from enjoying their usual fun and games.

We've had stories when the heavens have opened and a few boisterous renditions of Rain, Rain, Go Away. It may have even worked at one point!

The weather has certainly made our camp an exceedingly swampy atmosphere. All the more opportunity for the children to bounce in puddles and shovel the mud around with their buckets and spades. The children have also been able to play with some new climbing logs that we gathered at the staff inset day we had last Friday. It is a work in progress but already the new logs have transformed into; a car; a bus and a cafe. They become so immersed in their imaginative games. It's very precious.

We have also enjoyed several bear hunts this week, all singing the words from the classic book as we squelched through mud, stumbled through forests and found a deep dark cave, before scattering wildly around the camp as the bear chased us all. A close call!

We had an adventure walk this week which was delightful and one of this week's activities that we enjoyed with the luxury of good weather. We allowed the children to choose the path on several occasions, going with the majority opinion and there were great opportunities for collecting pine cones. We came to a stream at one point on the walk and the children had tremendous fun traversing it. There was a quaint den of sticks on the other side as well, which some of the children played in. It was a very pleasant walk with bursts of golden sun penetrating past the trees. The children were all splendid little explorers.

We have had a very energetic week and the children have enjoyed all of their forest pastimes. The weather may be turning colder but the camp's atmosphere continues to glow with warmth and merriment. Until next time, have a great weekend everyone.
