Following the announcement of our Queen’s award in April, we are delighted to share an article written about Little Forest Folk by a journalist who visited us in May.
We’ve been bursting with excitement and now that it’s the Queen’s birthday and the official announcement day, we are absolutely delighted to finally share with you the news that Little Forest Folk has been given the royal seal of approval.
Following our being selected by Tatler as being one of the finest nurseries in the nation last month, we are now delighted to share with you an article written about Little Forest Folk by a journalist who visited us in our Wimbledon setting a few weeks ago.
Well, this weekend was the long awaited Nursery World Awards! It was a fabulous event and we were delighted to be recognised in such a large industry such as the early years to be one of the industry leaders.
We made our own paper flowers, carefully folded their petals and then placed them in water to watch them slowly open up like real blossoms 🌸 It was such a magical moment! During this, we also learned about photosynthesis and even picked up a new song: “If you want to know how a plant grows, it takes water, air and sunlight!” 🎶
We had a Rabbit tunnel consisting of two climbing frames made out of pallets and a hula-hoop with two long bunny ears. This was part of our challenging Easter obstacle course. Our little bunnies had lots of fun climbing, going down the rabbit hole through the hula-hoop and the pile of tires, balancing between logs and crossing different sizes of planks. While the little ones used the tunnel as their secret and cosy rabbit hole home, the oldest enjoyed playing Jenga for many turns!🥚🌼🐰
This week, we placed a strong focus on tool work, building on the children’s skills and confidence. The children had the opportunity to use bow saws and palm drills, creating their very own wooden spinners - this was a big highlight and they were incredibly proud of their creations! It was also a fantastic continuation of last week’s work, where we practiced splitting wood using mallets.
This week the weather has thrown all the seasons at us! Cold, wet, hail and sun! Not to worry, this weather has been great for us to carry on with our growing projects!
On one of our outings we walked to the village to purchase some potatoes to plant. On the way there we took some time to enjoy a lovely snack on the bench whilst watching all the wildlife on the pond. We then took it in turns to feed the ducks, swans and geese whilst discussing the differences between them all.
Many of our trees in the forest are in bloom at the moment, our plum, apple and cherry trees are so pretty covered in white and pale pink blossoms. As the wind and the parakeets knock the blossoms from the branches, our intrepid artists are gathering the flowers and sticking them down on paper to create pictures and cards for friends and family members.
Understanding the World, with an emphasis on exploring and responding to natural phenomena. It’s been the perfect opportunity to dive right into planting! Over the past few weeks, our little adventurers have loved this activity and were thrilled to get involved again. Our little ones carefully planted peas, beans, nasturtiums and pansies, brightening up our veggie garden in the process. 🐞
Storytime was a cosy and engaging part of the day. Our Tales from Acorn Wood books, including Hide and Seek and Rabbit’s Nap, were favourites. Our Little Forest Folk-ers loved lifting the flaps, exploring the stories and taking turns reading together. One child took on the role of “book protector,” keeping a close eye on their favourite stories, which added a playful sense of responsibility to the session
This week at Little Forest Folk Morden, we started our next focus: Understanding the World, with an emphasis on exploring and responding to natural phenomena. e began the week by making the most of the lovely sunny weather with a trip to the playground. The children were full of energy as they explored climbing frames and practised their balancing skills. There was lots of imaginative play too - especially in the sandpit and on the pirate ship, where stories and adventures came to life through teamwork and creativity.
What a magical week full of sunshine! With temperatures higher than usual, longer days and bright mornings, we have been buzzing around the colourful and vibrant Fulham Palace Gardens. With the spring equinox around the corner, it seems that spring fairies may be hiding behind blossom trees! From lovely ladybirds visiting us daily on camp, busy honeybees and baby caterpillars hanging from the trees on their silk threads, we are embarking on a new season of adventure in the forest! 🐛🐞🐝🌸🌼🧚🌈
